Ankober Palace Lodge
Ankober Lodge is where Menelik II had a palace. It is now a lodge with a few pleasant bedrooms and a basic restaurant on the peak of a hill 2850 metres up, way out in the countryside with spectacular views over the Eastern (Ethiopian) rift valley. It lies 180 km north-east of Addis Ababa, and it took us over 4 hours to drive there from the north-west edge of the city. The day we were there was sunny, hazy and warm, so the views were limited. It was however extremely beautiful and spectacular.
