How to move a library in less than a week.

The new library space was finally prepared and carpeted, so a move from the old library (located on top of the gym accessed by concrete and metal steps) could begin.

In the UK, if a moving company had been employed you would get the minimum amount of people to do the job as ‘time is money’. Here as no one receives a wage except the Ethiopian workers, the old adage ‘many hands make light work’ came into play.

A group of volunteers helped to pack boxes with books and load them onto a truck. Then as soon as the shelving units were secured to the wall in the new location, they were filled by another team of willing helpers.

Bingham library is used by the school community, as well as families who are home schooling their children down-country.

I’ve spent most of my free time around teaching commitments on the project this week but the result is really pleasing and should provide a much more pleasant and accessible resource for the future.
